Not that bad as people say. There is a fast and convenient train from London to the airport. Even in peak hours I haven't waited for long at baggage drop and security checks. There are plenty of options for food and cafe. If you find a good flight to/from Luton, do not hesitate to buy it. It will be just fine.
I loved the user experience. Security Control efficient & swift. All spaciously laid out shopping / eateries. But, the toilets are filthy!
The Departures ordeal (Arrivals are slightly better, nobody does security screening, it is just a 1h wait for the luggage to arrive)... After it was screened, a crew member manually scanned my carry bag (containing a laptop, jumper and few small items) once, then opened it, manually searching for "evidence", then scanned it manually again. I said I was going to miss my flight and this crew member then sent my bag for another screen, through the queue, so that I have to wait. I was asked to take off the shoes, my body was checked through the scanner and then manually by another crew member. The crew was shouting, when I asked if I look suspicious, she laughed to my face and shouted, "she asks if she looks suspicious, haha".I then had to run and nearly missed my flight. I regularly fly to other countries. I am a frequent flyer gold member, with security clearance. What a creepy experience. Just to think that I was upgraded to a business class in Sydney, and laughed at and searched for no reason several times in London, all in one week.P.S the cheapest return trip to London from Luton and back is 40 (shuttle bus - train - taxi, as train is not connected to the tube nor the Luton airport, and each of the "operators" charges separately), trip takes hours each way and if your flight is early morning it's a lost night (to get to the airport) and a lost day at the destination (to recover). The toilet didn't have soap.
I have to be fair: I used to love this airport about a decade ago (2008-2009); The drop-off was free, parking cheaper and not that complicated. Now you have to pay for every single breath; Get in for 45 seconds, pay 3. Is gettin' worse and worse!
Much better than I expected. It is a very busy Airport because of the many budget airlines that operate from there. But it looks modern and clean. The security area is very big and appeared to be fairly speedy in checking passengers. Big shopping area in Duty Free. Good shuttle bus service from train station.
